Homemade Humor

I had a lot of fun writing a humor column for Canticle Magazine for a while. I don’t think of myself as a ‘humorist’ and in fact was noticeably un-funny when once introduced as one (think: deer in headlights) by a well-meaning friend. Somehow a good bit of humor works its way into even my serious talks, though, so I think of it as God’s way of reminding me to ‘take myself lightly’, as G.K. Chesterton would say. I do hope to write about our family’s nine-month sabbatical in Europe one of these days, and trust it will be as full of humor in retrospect as it was full of struggle and trepidation at the time. Don’t anyone steal the title, “Homemade Humor”, just in case I ever publish a retrospective!
