Word Weaver …
I have a way with words !
I enjoy collaborating
on the projects of others. I welcome inquiries about meeting your needs for a
writer/collaborator. Here are some ways I can be of help:
Copy
Editing –
You write and, in addition to basic proofreading, I suggest changes in wording.
Such changes vary in degree of complexity from simple grammatical corrections
to extensive structural redesign of the document, and project fee estimates
vary accordingly. I can provide copy editing for academic papers, theses,
dissertations, books and journal articles.
Writing
–
I work with you through in-person and email interviews, review of your written
notes and outlines, and original research to put your thoughts into words. In
this capacity, I am acting as the ‘ghostwriter’ of your letter, brochure, book,
grant proposal, operations manual, or speech. I do not ghost magazine or
journal articles, or academic papers.
Research
–
I contribute to your project (non-academic) by reading and ‘digesting’ source
materials for you. Fees are dependent upon time constraints, nature of source
documents, and the extent of writing you require for your digest format (oral
presentation, basic outline, chapter summaries, quotation excerpting and
documentation, etc…).
Growing
Your Non-Profit
I help the Boards of
Non-profit organizations develop mission statements, operations manuals,
strategic plans for promotions and growth, and better communications practices.

Growing Your Non-Profit
A workshop for your board
and staff to help you move together through ‘growing pains’
Every non-profit
organization, comfortable within its initial sphere of support and service delivery,
faces new challenges as its scope expands. New dreams for programming, new
needs for money and staff, donors with new motivations and goals – these are a
few of the positive hurdles a growing non-profit organization must face. Each
new opportunity places more demand upon a foundation that may have been laid in
haste as the good works began in earnest, or designed to support a very
different structure than you now need. How can you strengthen the
infrastructure of a growing organization in the midst of meeting all the new
and exciting demands for services and programs? How can you ensure that new
endeavors do not jeopardize your core mission, or distance you from current
supporters?
In the “Growing Your
Non-Profit” workshop I help you clarify what stage of growth you are in,
identify the weaknesses and strengths of your base of support and operations,
and articulate your vision in a way that helps you maintain a strong core while
extending into new areas of service. I’ll help you develop a self-study that
strengthens your current operations, and readies you for the challenges ahead.
Together, we’ll answer such questions as, “What structures do we work within
and through?”, “Do we need near money, or far money?”, “How are we meeting the
needs of our donors?”, “What success are we really building on?”, “What is our
enduring story, and how do we tell it?”, “What lenses are we looking through?”,
“What do our frustrations tell us?”, “What underlying weaknesses must we face
before expanding?”, “What is our argument?” and “What should we do next?”
As a spiritual director, I
help people grow up. As a facilitator, I help people have vital conversations
about needs, goals, problems, and dreams. As a teacher of business and
non-profit management, I help people improve the internal structures and
communications in their organizations. As a writer, I listen and help others
say better what they need to say - converting vague rhetoric to actionable
prose, good questions to clear answers, and internal discussion to public sound
bites. As a friend, I come alongside. I help reflect you to yourself through
the lens of my own experience and interest in your work, and enthusiastically
invest authentic ownership in your projects. I bring my experience in
education, management, communications, counseling and friendship to bear on
your concerns.
At one time, I directed the
Fairbanks, Alaska Small Business Development Center – teaching Business
Management, Accounting, Entrepreneurship, and Financial Management for
Non-Profits. Now, I am a Catholic spiritual director with the Apostles of the
Interior Life, a speaker/ workshop leader for retreats, a facilitator for
non-profit self-studies, and an author/freelance writer and poet. I am
currently working with the Catholic Fine Arts Council of the Archdiocese of
Kansas City, Kansas, to refine their plan of work. I take on new projects only
when I believe God wants me to get involved, help you discern how best to use
my contributions, and charge according to principles of solidarity and justice.
Please contact me to discuss the issues you are facing, and how I might be of
assistance. CharlotteOstermann.wordpress.com charoster@yahoo.com 785.863.2233
